Petition launched to save Green Belt -

Local Conservatives launch petition to stop developers building on Green Belt land in Longwell GreenProspective Conservative MP for Kingswood, Chris Skidmore, with local councillors John Calway and Christine Price have launched a petition to stop inappropriate development on Green Belt Land in Longwell Green.
Developers are looking to build hundreds of houses on Green Belt land behind Pearsall Road and Williams Close. This is thanks to the Government’s Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) which looks to impose an extra 33,000 houses on South Gloucestershire, allowing developers to build on Green Belt land. Local Labour MPs support the RSS.

Chris Skidmore, Prospective Conservative MP for the area, said, “I will be opposing this application with local councillors all the way. This is why we have set up the petition now, and hope many local people will sign. This application has only been allowed to take place due to the Labour Government's disastrous plans to impose 33,000 houses in South Gloucestershire and build on our Green Belt. Conservatives will abolish these plans and preserve and protect our local Green Belt for future generations and for the use of the community. These fields must be saved.”
John Calway, local councillor for the area and leader of South Gloucestershire council said, “I am supporting Chris' campaign to save these much loved local fields, which are Green Belt land and must remain green belt. Already Chris has done so much to oppose developments in Mangotsfield and Oldland Common, and I urge all local people to support the campaign and oppose this application.”

The Lamb raises over £1600 for Help 4 Heroes
charity
29th March 2010
As a result of a charity fundraising day which included darts, pool and skittles competitions, a tombola and an auction, The Lamb Pub in Cadbury Heath has raised over £1600 for Help 4 Heroes charity. The event was organised by the landlord Dave Smith and prospective MP for the local area, Chris Skidmore, who has been running a campaign to save the pub from the threat of closure. Already over 500 local people have signed the petition to keep the pub open, and since the campaign began, trade at the pub has increased dramatically.
Chris said: 'We thought it would be a great idea to raise money for the brave servicemen and women who have fought on our behalf, who risk their lives and deserve our full support. The Lamb is a community pub, and we wanted to show that it can do its bit to help. The money we raised for Help 4 Heroes was over three times the amount expected, which goes to show the true generosity of local people in Cadbury Heath.'
'The event gave a tremendous boost to the campaign to keep the pub open, which I am continuing the fight to save. The Lamb is simply too valuable a community resource to lose'

The Mall at the Galleries gave over £1000 worth of prizes for the auction, and ASDA Longwell Green also donated prizes, along with the local convenience store.
Presenting Chris with the cheque, landlord Dave Smith said: 'It is fantastic how local people have pulled together to support the charity and to give their backing to the pub. The pub must stay open, and I'm so proud how everyone has given their full backing to save the Lamb' .

Chris joins Save Our Green Spaces to hand in
hundreds
of letters opposing building on
Oldland's green belt
30th September 2009
At Kingswood Civic Centre, Chris joined the Oldland Common Save Our Green Spaces group to hand in hundreds of local letters of objection to plans to build on local green belt land. The plans have come about as a result of the government's Regional Spatial Strategy, which is seeking to build on green belt land, despite strong local opposition.
Chris said: 'The work Oldland Common Save Our Green Spaces have done is absolutely fantastic. As a local resident who lives and grew up in the area, I am determined to fight the government's disastrous Regional Spatial Strategy, which must be abolished if we are to protect our local green belt'.
