Chris Skidmore launches online petition to reduce number of extra
homes planned for local Kingswood area
Local campaigner and prospective Conservative MP for Kingswood Chris Skidmore has launched a petition to reduce the number of extra homes planned in his constituency.
The government are planning to build an extra 30,000 homes in South Gloucestershire by 2026. This includes 8,000 extra homes on greenfield land between Bridgeyate and Oldland Common.
Chris says:
'I believe that the local area simply can't cope with this volume of new houses. At the same time as Labour have cut key local services such as Frenchay Hospital, leaving thousands without close access to emergency facilities, we cannot expect the local infrastructure, our road network and our public services to be able to withstand this level of expansion. South Gloucestershire council have already raised their concerns at the government plans. By imposing this number of houses upon the local are this government is creating a potential nightmare scenario.'
Chris will also be surveying local areas affected by the proposed expansion into greenfield areas, in order to represent their views in a report that he will submit before the local consultation process closes on 13 June.
We the undersigned call on the government to reduce the number of houses being imposed on South Gloucestershire.
