Chris Skidmore MP continues to fight for Kingswood Green Belt and praises work of SOGS
2nd July 2010
Local Kingswood MP Chris Skidmore has been fighting to protect the Kingswood Green Belt for the use of the local community and has praised the work of the local campaign group – Save Our Green Spaces.
In a debate in Parliament on the Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS), Chris welcomed the abolition of the RSS by the new coalition Government stating that it “cannot come soon enough”. The Kingswood Green Belt is still under threat from development through speculative planning applications. The most recent application is to build hundreds of houses on Green Belt land behind Williams Close, Longwell Green, where Chris with local residents and councillors are fighting against this application. Over 600 local residents have signed Chris’ petition against this application.
On the Save Our Green Spaces Chris told fellow MPs, “I have been working alongside the fantastic Save Our Green Spaces groups in Oldland Common, Warmley and Mangotsfield, whose tireless commitment to saving their local Green Belt has been humbling. I am proud to represent such constituents, whose sense of pride, dedication and duty towards protecting their local community for future generations is startling.”
South Gloucestershire Council have cross-party agreement to build 21,500 houses over the next 15 years and at the same time protecting the Kingswood Green Belt for the use of the local community. Chris and local residents are campaigning against inappropriate developments on the Kingswood Green Belt.
