New MP for Kingswood, Chris Skidmore, has used an appearance in Parliament to champion the work of two key disabled charities in the area, the Vassall Centre in Fishponds and the Disability Action Group in Kingswood.

Chris, who recently pledged that he would follow on from the previous MP, Roger Berry's work on the disabled, spoke at Work and Pensions Questions in order to highlight the great work of these charities and voluntary organisations.

Chris, who has previously visited the Vassall Centre as a candidate and takes a keen interest in its work, said “I want to stand up for those in need, the vulnerable and the disabled. The Vassall Centre and the Disability Action Group both do tremendous work, and I want to ensure that the government allows them to have a greater say and a greater role in supporting disabled people."

Maria Miller MP, the Under Secretary of State for Work and Pensions responded by saying that Chris Skidmore was "right that the Vassall Centre plays a pivotal role in Gloucestershire in bringing together many different organisations, which provide support for some of the disabled people most in need of it."
