CHRIS SKIDMORE MP ELECTED VICE-CHAIRMAN OF THE ST GEORGE’S DAY ALL PARTY GROUP AND PLEDGES TO MAKE ST GEORGE’S DAY IN KINGSWOOD A DAY TO REMEMBER

23rd July 2010

Local MP for Kingswood, Chris Skidmore, has been elected Vice-Chairman of the All Parliamentary Party Group on St George’s Day.

The Group exists to promote St George’s Day and English heritage and history and is linked to the Royal Society of St George.

Chris hopes to use his position to raise awareness of English History and at the same time has pledged to organise a St George’s Festival in Kingswood on St George’s Day next year, 23 April 2011.

Chris, a historian who specialises in English history, said “I believe that we must do more to celebrate our national day, just in the same way that Ireland celebrates St Patrick’s Day. We should be proud of our local identity, our local and national history, and as the local MP I will be looking to organise St George’s celebrations next April in Kingswood as part of this. It gives us an opportunity to come together and celebrate amongst our local community. As Kingswood’s MP, I’m looking to bring communities together - I want to establish an annual festival in Kingswood to celebrate St George’s Day, starting from next year, and have already begun discussions with the local Council. If anyone would like to get involved in the idea, please do get in touch.”

Anyone wishing to get involved with the plans for a St George’s Day festival should contact Chris’ office on 0117 908 1524 or email paul@chrisskidmore.com.
