CHRIS SKIDMORE MP RAISES ISSUE OF BULLDOZED LOCAL KINGSWOOD POLICE STATION IN PARLIAMENT

28th June 2010

The MP for Kingswood, Chris Skidmore, has spoken out in Parliament about the closure of the Kingswood Police Station under the previous government.

In response, the new MP has managed to secure a meeting with the Minister for Police, Nick Herbert MP.

The local Police Station, based in the centre of Kingswood, was closed and finally demolished over a year ago. In its place, new housing is currently being built.

Chris asked the Minister for Police, Nick Herbert MP, what could be done to "ensure a more effective local policing presence in the future".

Commenting on his appearance, Chris said: "I feel that this is an important issue for many local residents in Kingswood, who feel let down and vulnerable without the security of a local Police Station. We should be doing more to ensure that not only are there more Police on the streets instead of filling out paperwork, we have a local Police Force with a visible presence. I'm delighted that I've managed to secure a meeting with the Minister as a result of my appearance in Parliament. Standing up for local people there is what matters to me."
