CHRIS SKIDMORE MP CELEBRATES WORK OF LOCAL CAMPAIGNERS IN SAVING COSSHAM HOSPITAL

28th July 2010

Chris Skidmore, new MP for Kingswood, has tabled a motion in Parliament celebrating the work of two local groups - the League of Friends of Cossham Hospital and the Save Cossham Hospital Group - whose efforts resulted in the much-loved local Cossham Hospital being saved from closure.

The Hospital is now being given a £19 million makeover - work on the building began in June and the Hospital is now scheduled to open in early 2012. However under the previous government it was threatened with closure until a campaign begun by the League of Friends and the Save Cossham Hospital Group forced a U-turn.

Chris, himself a Friend of Cossham Hospital and who volunteers at the Hospital cafe, said: “I wanted to pay tribute to the tireless work of the League of Friends of Cossham Hospital and the Save Cossham Hospital. It was due to their efforts that Cossham was saved, and with the refurbishment work starting, as the local MP I just wanted to say thank you on behalf of the people of Kingswood for their hard work. Without them, it is likely that the Hospital would have been axed by the previous government. Instead, Cossham Hospital is now being given a fantastic upgrade and will continue to serve our local area for generations to come.”
