Chris opens the Cadbury Heath Information Centre
16 April 2009
On 2 April 2009, Chris was asked to open the Cadbury Heath Information Centre at the Old Pavillion, Cadbury Heath. Chris is pictured here with local volunteers who have worked tirelessly to get the centre up and running. Now anyone can drop to find out more about what is happening in the local community, as well as picking up useful leaflets for infomation and advice on a wide range of issues.
Chris says:
It was a real pleasure to be invited to open the Cadbury Heath Information Centre last week, which has just been launched at the Old Pavillion, where Banjo Island Community and Sports Association is based.
It marks such a turnaround for the building and local residents. Several years ago, the pavillion was a derelict building, earmarked for demolition. That was until members of the local community decided to step in and save it. Now, having been taken over by the Association, known as BICSA, it has been turned into a thriving beacon for the local community. What's more, it has been the active engagement of young people that have helped make the pavillion and BICSA what it is: they are the ones who have helped renovate and paint it, restoring the building to its full use.
BICSA is a model of what can be done when the local community comes together to support one another, taking pride in what they have set up and achieved. The information centre there, part of the Juice CIC project, is one more step along this road. It provides free advice and information to local residents on every kind of problem from health issues to applying to local schools- a kind of one stop shop that people can drop into for help from their local community. The Centre is based at BICSA, Old Pavillion, Park Road, Cadbury Heath. I would encourage all local residents of Cadbury Heath to come along and see for themselves how this great facility can benefit them.
