YOUR LOCAL BUS SERVICE SAVED

17 April 2009

Your local bus, the 632 service, has been saved after a successful campaign by Prospective Conservative MP, Chris Skidmore.

Chris and local residents have persuaded South Gloucestershire Council to step in and save the route.

The 632 is a vital service that takes local residents into Bath and Bristol. It also runs to Aspects Leisure Centre, through Longwell Green and Hanham and into Bristol.

Funding of the service had been shared between Bath & North East Somerset Council (BANES) & South Gloucestershire Council. But BANES withdrew its funding, which put the route in danger. Now South Gloucestershire has agreed to plug the shortfall and work with local parish councils to secure its long-term future.

Chris said: ‘As a local Bitton resident, I know how valuable the 632 service is for local residents, particularly the elderly and those who have no other means of transport. It is a vital route that absolutely must be maintained.’

‘This is why I launched this campaign together with local councillors and residents to save the 632 and I am delighted that South Gloucestershire has agreed to help us.’
