Chris Skidmore: Setting up new local Jobs
Club to meet demand

8 May 2009

Prospective Conservative MP for Kingswood Chris Skidmore will be setting up a new jobs club in Cadbury Heath, following on from the success of the Kingswood Jobs Club he set up for Kingswood residents looking for work a few months ago.

The new Jobs Club will meet once a fortnight on Tuesdays 11am-1pm at the Banjo Island Community and Sports Association, The Old Pavillion, Park Road, Cadbury Heath. The first meeting of the Jobs Club will take place on Tuesday 12 May.

Participants can receive help with their CVs, covering letters and receive interview tips and practice. Speakers ranging from local businessmen to experts on job hunting will also be invited along to give instructive talks.

Chris said: 'I'm really looking forward to setting up this new Jobs Club and extending the help I can offer to as many local people as possible. People are looking for help and support, but aren't getting it from Labour. As a local person, my mission is to help the most vulnerable people in the area who have been hit hard by Gordon Brown's recession."

Chris' Jobs Club at Kingswood has been used as a model by Conservatives to set Jobs Clubs up across the country. Chris recently appeared at the Conservative Party Spring Conference to talk about the success of the Jobs Club. The Conservative Party Chairman Eric Pickles recently visited the Jobs Club where he commented in a letter to the Evening Post:

"I was impressed by what I saw ... I got a sense that the Jobs Club was giving people the confidence they needed to apply for the jobs and the career they want. I understand that the club has been successful, helping some people to get a job ... The Jobs Club is also an excellent way for local people to meet other local members of the community and share their experiences. It's about the local community helping each other"

The Cadbury Heath Jobs Club will meet on 12 May at the Old Pavillion, Cadbury Heath. To come along or for more information, please ring 9736812 or contact Chris at chris@chrisskidmore.com.
