Justice for Oliver

Chris has been working with local resident Paula McGowan since her son Oliver tragically passed away in 2016 at Southmead Hospital, after an adverse reaction to an anti-psychotic medication.

Oliver had autism and a mild learning disability, and his family had explained to staff that he had previously experienced an allergic reaction to the same drug. His parents believe that the health care team’s lack of awareness and training on these conditions was a contributory cause in his death.

Chris has since been supporting Paula and family in her campaign and efforts to call for an investigation into Oliver’s death, raising the issue with Ministers and speaking in a Parliamentary debate calling on the Government to ensure health care professionals receive mandatory training on autism and learning disabilities. The Government has since opened a public consultation on the proposals, which Chris is monitoring closely.
