Local MP Chris Skidmore has secured Government funding for a £500,000 study into a new link road from the Avon ring road A4174 to the M4.
The study will pave the way for a new Junction 18a at Emersons Green which will ease congestion and reduce the journey times currently faced by local residents.
The Gateway2Growth campaign has enjoyed massive local support since it was launched by Chris Skidmore last year with almost 1,300 residents and over 100 businesses across the area signing up to show their backing for the new Link Road.
The proposed junction would help attract businesses and bring highly skilled jobs to Emersons Green, an area which is seeing strong growth, with thousands of new homes and up to 7,000 jobs expected to be created over the next 12 years.
Local MP Chris Skidmore said: "Ever since being elected back in 2010, I have fought tirelessly to get an M4 link to the ring road considered, holding debates and gathering thousands of petition signatures.
"With the strength of the Gateway2Growth campaign, we now have the £500,000 for a study we need to get this project off the ground.
I am delighted that the Government is now giving this campaign serious consideration thanks to the thousands of residents who have supported the campaign so far."
