As someone who was born and grew up locally I understand just how important our green spaces are for the community.
Since becoming the local MP I fought for greater protection for our greenbelt and joined residents in opposing developers who submitted applications. In the last Parliament, the Government increased Green Belt protection by abolishing the unpopular and counter-productive Regional Strategies that sought to delete areas of Green Belt. The Government’s Housing Bill going through Parliament will mean that authorities will only be able to amend Green Belt boundaries once they have examined fully all other reasonable options for meeting their identified development requirements, including making effective use of suitable brownfield sites, optimising the proposed density of development and exploring whether other authorities can help to meet some of the identified development requirement.
While Green Belt protection is being increased, there are other green spaces in our area under threat which could have a detrimental impact on our community. Last week I met with Hanham District Greenbelt and Conversation Society to discuss concerns for plans on Hanham Sports ground off Abbotts Road and other open spaces in your area
We the undersigned oppose any proposed development on the Hanham Green Belt or the Hanham Hill Conservation Area, including any proposals to develop Hanham Sports Ground on Abbotts Road.
